Michigan Governor: State Will Wait to Recognize Same-Sex Marriages

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder says state agencies will wait to recognize the hundreds of same-sex marriages performed in the Great Lakes State over the weekend.
"We are extremely sensitive to feelings on this issue and are hoping for a swift resolution for all involved," said Sara Wurfel, spokeswoman for Gov. Snyder, in a statement to The Associated Press on Sunday.
"We are not saying that we aren't or won't recognize the marriages that happened on Saturday, but that we're awaiting further court or legal direction on this complex, unusual situation.”
"Either way, this can't be construed one way or another as not recognizing the validity of the same sex marriages.”
Hours after Michigan clerks began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples, the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a stay on marriage equality until Wednesday.
