In accordance with a memo sent yesterday by Oregon’s Chief Operating Officer to all state agencies, Oregon will now recognize all out-of-state marriages, including those of same-sex couples.
“Oregon agencies must recognize all out-of-state marriages for the purposes of administering state programs," writes state COO Michael Jordan. "That includes legal, same sex marriages performed in other states and countries.”
Jordan’s decision was made based on a legal opinion from the Oregon Department of Justice.
Similar actions were taken by Maryland, Rhode Island, and D.C. prior to those jurisdictions passing full marriage equality.
