After narrowly losing to Japan in the 2011 World Cup, the U.S. women’s soccer team has double reason to celebrate. The Americans defeated Japan 2-1 in today’s Olympic final at Wembley Stadium.
Out soccer star Megan Rapinoe lead her team throughout the tournament and was key to the U.S. reaching this gold-winning game.
Other openly LGBT Olympians are on track to medal. American tennis player Lisa Raymond won bronze in Sunday’s mixed doubles finals. And Seimone Augustus and the powerhouse U.S. women’s basketball team are poised to take home another gold on Saturday.
Stay tuned for much more news on this year’s openly LGBT Olympians.
