Massachusetts Vets Continue Fight Against DADT
May 17, 2010
After last week’s Veterans Lobby Day on Capitol Hill, HRC organizers in Massachusetts enjoyed a day of softball. 82 handwritten letters to Senator Scott Brown later, we were ready for the week ahead. On Tuesday, a group of veterans will be meeting with Senator Brown’s staff in Boston to share their stories and to ask for the Senator’s support for a repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. On Wednesday, former Marine Eric Alva and local veterans will issue a clarion call for the freedom to serve at historic Faneuil Hall. In this building, Samuel Adams led protests against taxation without representation in the colonies. Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, and Lucy Stone brought their struggles for freedom here in the 19th century. Please join HRC and MassEquality for this forum on Wednesday, May 19 starting at 7 p.m. in Faneuil Hall. The forum will be followed by a reception with the veterans and HRC National Field Director Marty Rouse. RSVP for the event on Facebook.
