Maryland Catholic Couple, Married 48 Years, Will Vote for Question 6
September 26, 2012 by Carolyn Simon, Deputy Director of Digital Media
The newest video from the Marylanders for Marriage Equality campaign features Jenny and Pat Nugent of Maryland. They are lifelong Catholics who are very active with their church.
The Nugents have always put a strong emphasis on family values. They have 11 grandchildren and 7 children – one of whom is gay.
They want their son, Kevin, to have the opportunity – just like the rest of their children – to marry the person he loves.
“I also want for him to be able to say to the world, ‘This is who I love, this is who I’m committed to and this is who is committed to me,” Jenny Nugent said in the video.
“I’m going to vote my conscience and vote for Question number 6 in November,” Pat Nugent said.
HRC has set up a special fund to direct 100 percent of your contribution today to defend the marriage equality law in Maryland. HRC is a founding member and leader of Marylanders for Marriage Equality, the coalition campaign working to defend marriage in the Free State, and your contribution will support the coalition's efforts and count toward your HRC membership.
