January 3, 2013 by Dan Rafter, Associate Director of Communications
Momentum for marriage equality continues in 2013 - the Illinois State Senate will likely vote on marriage equality in the near future.
Momentum for marriage in the state is increasing – in addition to a growing majority of Americans who support marriage equality; President Obama has spoken out in favor of the Illinois measure. Even the chair of the Illinois GOP, Pat Brady, said he supports marriage equality, adding: “I think it’s time for people to support this.” And Governor Pat Quinn has indicated he’ll sign the bill into law when it crosses his desk.
HRC is a proud member of the Illinois Unites for Marriage coalition. Similar to coalitions that HRC helped lead in Maryland and Washington, the Illinois Unites for Marriage coalition is coordinating lobbying and public education efforts in support of the marriage equality bill there.
Keep checking back with the HRC blog for the latest details on marriage equality in Illinois. If you live in Illinois, join HRC in taking action and letting you legislator know that the time is now to pass marriage.
