Maine Senate expected to vote on marriage bill
April 30, 2009
Today the Maine Senate is expected to vote on a bill, LD 1020, to grant same-sex couples the right to legally marry. The vote will take place two days after the Maine Joint Committee on Judiciary voted 11-2-1 in favor of legislation to permit same-sex couples to marry under state law--and less than a week after more than 3,000 people turned out at the Augusta Civic Center to show their support for marriage equality at an 11-hour public hearing on the bill. The Senate convenes today at 10 a.m. Watch the webcast of the Maine Senate proceedings here.
