Maine Firefighters Voice Support for Marriage Equality

This post comes from HRC Editorial and Digital Media Intern Leanne Naramore:

As the November vote on same-sex marriage approaches, Maine’s firefighters are speaking up for equality in a new video.

Mainers United, the organization leading the fight for equality in the state, launched the video this weekend. Four firefighters with over thirty combined years on the force speak about why they are voting “Yes” on Question 1, the amendment that would allow marriage for Maine’s same-sex couples.

“I get to go home to my wife. The guys I work with should be able to marry the person they love. We’re voting Yes on 1.”

With only six weeks until the November 6 vote, more and more Mainers are speaking out for equal rights. You can make your own voice heard by getting involved with Mainers United here!

No matter where you live, you can make a difference in Maine.  HRC has set up a special fund – HRC Maine Families PAC – to direct 100 percent of your contribution to help win marriage equality in Maine.  Together, we can mobilize the majority of Mainers who support marriage equality and win at the ballot this November.
