Mahalo, Hawaii House Rep. Chris Lee

Rep. Lee Hawaii and Marty Rouse

With over 41 hours of testimony on the books, the Hawaii State House of Representatives is entering its second week of this historic special session.

Just minutes before entering the House Committees on Judiciary and Finance, I had the opportunity to meet with Hawaii House Representative Chris Lee, to thank him for his work and leadership this year on the marriage equality bill. Rep. Lee has been instrumental in lobbying his colleagues on both sides of the aisle and in both chambers, telling his personal story of why marriage equality is part of the Aloha spirit.

The House is expected to continue hearing testimony today and into the evening. While it is unclear as to when the committee is expected to vote, we’re continuing to work with our allies and advocates on the ground to show our support for marriage equality in the Aloha State and expect to see a final bill pass next week.
