Macy’s Draws Fire for Ad Featuring Two Grooms
February 1, 2012 by Carolyn Simon
Marriage equality is mainstream – and anti-LGBT groups don’t like it one bit.
A new Macy’s catalog shows subtle support for same-sex marriage, and now the company is in the crosshairs of One Million Moms, which is affiliated with the rabidly anti-gay American Family Association.
The ad, which was posted on MyNorthwest.com, shows a car parked in a vineyard with the words, “I Do” on the license plate.
There’s a wedding cake topper jammed in the car’s trunk, and there are two grooms atop the cake.
“Just because gay marriage is legal in a few states, this is inappropriate marketing and conservative customers will not support it,” reads the website of One Million Moms. The group asks its supporters to sign a letter asking Macy’s to discontinue the ad.
Cheers to Macy’s for supporting equality and including the LGBT community in its national ad campaign!
