Long Island Leader for Marriage Equality

The following post comes from Patty Ellis, a member of  HRC's Board of Governors. Regina Calcaterra, Democratic New York state Senate candidate from eastern Suffolk County on Long Island, was recently endorsed by the Human Rights Campaign New York PAC in her bid to unseat an incumbent who voted against the marriage equality bill last year. Upon receiving HRC’s endorsement, Calcaterra said: “I’m extremely honored to have received the endorsement of the HRC New York PAC and I look forward to working with their grassroots base to be elected to the New York state Senate.  As someone who strongly supports marriage equality and the rights of all New Yorkers, I am proud to stand with the Human Rights Campaign in their Campaign for New York Marriage.”

I was thrilled to meet Calcaterra at a recent HRC event.  She spoke passionately of her support for equality for all, including her support for marriage equality.  I and many of the others on-hand that night were wowed by her commitment to helping those who face discrimination and unequal treatment under the law.  I and other HRC volunteers have already spent many hours volunteering on Ms. Calcaterra’s campaign.  She’s got a buzzing campaign office, filled with HRC volunteers and others.  Join us in the fight for marriage equality in New York!
