Live from Olympia: One More Vote!
January 19, 2012 by Guest contributor
This post comes from Michael Martin, one of HRC’s organizers working with Washington United for Marriage.
Today, Senator Jim Kastama announced his support for marriage equality. This is a testament to our volunteer efforts in the South Puget Sound region. Senator Kastama was a key vote and his support brings us even closer to securing marriage equality in Washington State.
I’ve been on the ground in the South Sound since the launch of Washington United for Marriage in November and have seen a ton of excitement as folks come out and make their voices heard. The work isn’t necessarily the easiest but because of the persistent efforts of key volunteers like Maggie Humphreys, who organized her friends to engage their community with the important question; "do you support marriage equality?”
Senator Kastama needs to hear from us. His announcement today is one of courage and we need to stand by him. It’s easy. You can call his office at (360)786-7648 to thank him for his support for marriage equality.
