Listen: Gay Adoptive Father on his Dream of Being a Parent

In this week’s featured recording from StoryCorps, John Curtis and his 11-year-old son John Wikeira talk about some of their dreams, including the dream Curtis had to be a father.
"I had always wanted to be a parent,” says Curtis. “So it was a dream I had, but I never dreamed would come true because Papa and I are gay.”
Curtis talks about his joy at finding out they would be a family. “We were always meant to be together.”
