LGBT People of Faith Reflect on Ash Wednesday
February 25, 2009
As you may know, Christians mark today, Ash Wednesday, as the beginning of the Lenten journey. Not surprisingly, the themes associated with this season--struggle, reflection, trial and resurrection--hold deep resonance for many transgender people. I encourage you to read the latest seasonal installment of Out In Season by transgender laity and clergy who reflect together on the liturgical season of Lent, Easter and Pentecost from a transgender perspective. You’ll also want to look at Out In Scripture for Ash Wednesday. The Out In Scripture writers ask us to “reflect [today] on repentance both in terms of what it means in general and how it may apply to lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people in particular.” And be sure to check out the new video about this season from the editor of Out In Scripture and Out In Season, Rev. Dr. Sidney D. Fowler. Watch it here.
