LGBT Equality Caucus to host LGBT business briefing on Capitol Hill

U.S. Capitol BuildingTomorrow the LGBT Equality Caucus will hold an informative briefing for Capitol Hill staffers on the Domestic Partnership Tax Fairness Act and the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA).  The briefing will be held on Friday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. in Room HC-5 of the U.S. Capitol. There is currently no federal law that consistently protects LGBT individuals from employrnent discrimination; it remains legal in 30 states to discriminate based on sexual orientation, and in 38 states to do so based on gender identity or expression. As a result, LGBT people face serious discrimination in emplolment, including being fired, being denied a promotion and experiencing harassment on the job. Hundreds of companies have enacted policies protecting their LGBT employees. Briefing presenters will discuss these issues in more depth, as well as the DP Tax Fairness Act and ENDA. The panel will include:

  • James Delaplane, Davis & Harmon, LLC
  • Brian Moulton, Senior Counsel, Human Rights Campaign
  • Orsen Porter, U.S. Director, Government and Public Affairs, Nike, Inc.
  • Meghan Stabler, Director & Strategist, Worldwide Marketing BMC Software Inc. and Member, Human Rights Campaign Business Council

Diego Sanchez, Legislative Assistant for Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) and the first openly transgender person to work on Capitol Hill, will moderate the panel.
