Latino Groups Join Forces to Promote Pro-Equality Campaign
July 9, 2012 by Carolyn Simon, Associate Director of Digital Media
Nearly two dozen Latino civil rights organizations have united to endorse “Familia es Familia,” a campaign aimed at building acceptance of LGBT equality in Latino communities.
The bilingual campaign will provide resources to help educate the public about LGBT issues and amplify the voices of supportive Latino families.
The campaign was announced at the annual summit for National Council of La Raza, which was joined by groups such as the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Conference, the League of United Latin American Citizens, the Mexican American Legal Defense & Education Fund and others.
NCLR and LULAC both recently announced their endorsements of marriage equality.
The LGBT and Latino communities have a long history of supporting each other. HRC is a partner with NCLR and other groups on Ya Es Hora, the largest and most inclusive effort to incorporate Latino/a immigrants and other immigrants into American civic life.
Visit the Familia es Familia website for more information on the campaign.
