This weekend, Las Vegas celebrated Pride, and HRC staff and volunteers were on hand for all of it.

On Friday, HRC volunteers marched in the 15^th Annual Las Vegas Pride Parade, and two of Nevada’s Congressional Representatives, Dina Titus and Steven Horsford, came out to march with us in support of LGBT Pride and equality. The crowd was amazing, and we had such a great time celebrating with other Las Vegas nonprofit organizations, LGBT service agencies, civic groups, and churches, and businesses!

On Saturday, HRC staff and volunteers greeted thousands of festival-goers, welcoming them to Pride and letting them know that everyone who purchased a ticket to the Pride Festival received one-year membership to HRC.

We also asked everyone to support HRC’s efforts to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, to help make sure employees in this country are judged solely on their merits and talents. 

In case you didn’t know, currently there are still 29 states where people can be fired for being lesbian or gay, and transgender people can be fired in 33. The Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) recently passed the Senate Help, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) committee with bipartisan support. Nevada’s Senator, Majority Leader Harry Reid, has publicly stated that he’d like to bring ENDA to the Senate floor this fall. HRC is working tirelessly with Americans for Workplace Opportunity to support this bill, and make sure that the workplace rights and protections of LGBT Americans aren’t dependent on their ZIP code.
