LA Times Highlights HRC President Chad Griffin’s “Visionary” Work Around Proposition 8

In the next few days, the Supreme Court is expected to issue decisions on the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act and California’s ban on same-sex marriage.
For HRC President Chad Griffin, the journey to the court began four years ago, when he brought a lawsuit against California’s Proposition 8; a move many in gay legal groups at the time called “risky and premature.”
Since then the landscape of equality has indeed changed. Now 12 states, plus Washington, D.C., have marriage equality legislation on the books, and support for loving, committed same-sex couples is at an all-time high of 58 percent.
Today Griffin is regarded with “grudging respect by his former adversaries and hailed as a visionary by his friends,” according to the Los Angeles Times.
“If you just look through the history of time, there's always reason to wait," Griffin told the LA Times about his decision to move forward with the case.
