Kyrsten Sinema: Equality Champion in Arizona

Voters in Arizona’s ninth congressional district are voting today in a race that could send Kyrsten Sinema to Congress. HRC endorsed Sinema and has staff on the ground in Arizona pounding the pavement to ensure her election
Sinema previously served as a member of HRC’s Arizona steering committee, and her career in public service is marked by her continued dedication to standing up for LGBT equality. She is a longtime supporter of marriage equality – working on more than one occasion to push back against anti-equality legislation in Arizona. She’s advocated for our families, defeating a 2010 bill aimed at making it impossible for LGBT people to adopt. And – despite fierce opposition from those who work against equality – she’s tirelessly advocated for workplace protection legislation in Arizona.
Sinema’s election also would make her the first openly bisexual member of the U.S. House.
