Kicking off ENDA Organizing in the Keystone State

This post comes from Jane Slusser, Pennsylvania state lead with the Americans for Workplace Opportunity campaign.
Talking with Pennsylvanians from all across the state who support ENDA brings a smile to our organizers’ faces
As part of the Americans for Workplace Opportunity campaign, Pennsylvania’s organizing team is excited to announce our first week of activities here in the Keystone state. Along with our partner organizations, including lead state partner Equality PA, our team is working hard to ensure that Pennsylvanians from every corner of the state have a chance to voice their firm support for ending workplace discrimination.
The Keystone state is the key to our national campaign’s strategy to pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act on the floor of the United States Senate this fall. It makes us proud Pennsylvanians to have the full support of Senator Casey who is a co-sponsor of the legislation. Senator Patrick Toomey, however, is still undecided, and we know his vote is crucial to winning on ENDA. Once he hears the strong support we have all across the state—from Johnstown to Allentown (and everywhere in between)—we know he’ll do the right thing and vote YES on ENDA.
Our team will be working with volunteers, progressive organizations, communities of faith, and bipartisan groups from across the state to show Senator Toomey why voting “YES” on ENDA is what Pennsylvania voters both want and deserve. Our team will give Pennsylvanians a chance to express their support for ENDA directly at Senator Toomey’s offices and talk directly to the Senator and his circle of influencers, so that Senator Toomey can vote YES with the confident knowledge that he represents the vast majority of Pennsylvanians who want to end workplace discrimination.
In order to win, we’ll need active engagement from supporters of equality across Pennsylvania. We’ve got a big state to cover and need everyone’s help kicking off local activities throughout the state. It’s going to take a lot of effort and hard work, but we promise it will be both fun and rewarding.
Starting this week, we’re hosting community meetings to gather together our strongest supporters to plan our upcoming actions.
Sign up for one of our Pennsylvania community meetings and let us know how you would like to be involved!
If we don’t have a meeting in your area already on the calendar, reach out to your local organizer and they will let you know about other upcoming events near you.
