Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius to head HHS
March 3, 2009
As many in Washington were digging themselves out from under the snow, President Obama yesterday announced Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius as his latest nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services. We'll be paying close attention to Governor Sebelius's recommendations for reforming the nation's struggling healthcare system, particularly regarding HIV/AIDS. So far, we've seen at least one encouraging sign that Gov. Sebelius's will be an ally to the LGBT community from her new post: In August 2007, HRC board members Cyd Slayton and Kirk Isenhour joined other LGBT activists to witness Governor Sebelius sign an executive order to prohibit discrimination against LGBT state employees.
