Judiciary Committee Votes Out Kagan Favorably
July 20, 2010
The Senate Judiciary Committee met today to discuss and vote on the nomination of Elena Kagan as the next Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. After a lengthy debate, the Senate Judiciary Committee vote was 13-6. South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican, joined all of the committee’s Democrats in support of Kagan. Although the Republican minority has suggested the possibility of a filibuster of the nomination, that is considered unlikely to succeed and the Senate is expected to vote on Kagan’s nomination to the Supreme Court during the first week of August. HRC endorsed Solicitor General Kagan to be Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court after she completed her week of testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
