Join us at Pride!

Ed. Note: This post is from Tommy Lodge, Membership & Community Events Manager. pride_dc-black-prideAs President Obama recently proclaimed, June is national LGBT pride month and the Human Rights Campaign has been preparing for it for months!  While prides are certainly a fun celebration with family and friends, there is an important message.  This year the LGBT community is commemorating the 40th anniversary of the New York Stonewall riots, which is how the nation's first prides got their start.  HRC itself is attending over 90 pride events nationwide.  From Omaha to New York and from Lansing to San Francisco, HRC will be there talking about the issues important to our community.  Reaching up to 5 million people annually, 70% of our members and supporters first hear of HRC at pride events and it's an important opportunity to get engaged in the work of HRC. pride_phoenix-floatSo if you find yourself at pride this year, be sure to look for the yellow banners at the festival or wave to us in the parade.   I myself am heading out to Salt Lake City to help them celebrate pride this weekend and to talk to people about HRC and our legislative agenda.
