Join Mainers United for a ‘Yes on 1’ Kick-Off Rally
September 7, 2012 by Matt McTighe
Matt McTighe is the campaign manager for Mainers United for Marriage, the campaign working to win marriage equality in Maine.
With just over 50 days left until Election Day, Mainers United for Marriage is kicking off our “Yes on 1” campaign! A “Yes” vote on Question 1 on November 6th is a vote to allow marriage licenses for same-sex couples.
We’ll be holding events across the state on Monday, September 10. Sign up now to join me and several hundred other Mainers who have pledged to vote Yes on One!
The biggest event will be on the steps of City Hall in downtown Portland. We have stacks of bumper stickers featuring our new logo that we’re giving away to anyone who signs our pledge postcards or signs up for a volunteer shift.
Portland Mayor Michael Brennan will be there to get the crowd fired up. Brennan has been an outspoken advocate for our efforts since first announcing his support in March. He was a grand marshal of the Southern Maine Pride parade earlier this summer.
If you don’t live near Portland, don’t worry - we have events planned for Lewiston, Augusta, Sanford, Kennebunk and more.
Find an event near you at http://www.mainersunited.org/kickoff.
No matter where you live, you can make a difference in Maine. HRC has set up a special fund – HRC Maine Families PAC – to direct 100 percent of your contribution to help win marriage equality in Maine. Together, we can mobilize the majority of Mainers who support marriage equality and win at the ballot this November.
