Johns Hopkins Poised to Welcome Anti-LGBT Surgeon, Commentator as Commencement Speaker

Johns Hopkins University appears to be standing by the commencement speaker for the university’s medical school, Dr. Ben Carson. In a recent Fox News appearance, Carson blasted marriage equality and even equated it to bestiality and pedophilia:
Marriage is between a man and a woman. No group, be they gays, be they NAMBLA, be they people who believe in bestiality, it doesn't matter what they are. They don't get to change the definition.
Hundreds of medical school students due to attend the commencement ceremonies have spoken out against Carson’s remarks. This isn’t the first time Carson has railed against marriage equality – in his book America the Beautiful, Carson dramatically warned that embracing marriage equality for loving, committed same-sex couples would actually lead to the downfall of our civilization:
I believe God loves homosexuals as much as he loves everyone, but if we can redefine marriage as between two men or two women or any other way based on social pressures as opposed to between a man and a woman, we will continue to redefine it in any way that we wish, which is a slippery slope with a disastrous ending, as witnessed in the dramatic fall of the Roman Empire.
Last week, Carson offered a muddled apology to MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell – while essentially re-stating his original offensive remarks, asking: “My point was that once we start changing the definitions, then where do we stop?”
