Jason Collins Tapped for President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition

President Obama has announced that he intends to appoint Jason Collins to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition. The council works to motivate Americans to adopt a healthy lifestyle via physical activity and nutrition.
Obama also announced his intention to appoint Misty Copeland, the first African-American soloist at the American Ballet Theatre in more than two decades; NBA executive Alonzo H. Mourning, Jr.; celebrity chef Rachael Ray; and Robert Thomas Shepardson, who co-founded a marketing firm that has worked on Obama youth initiatives.
“I am grateful that these impressive individuals have chosen to dedicate their talents to serving the American people at this important time for our country,” said Obama. “I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead.”
It’s been a big week for Collins - he was also named as one of TIME Magazine’s “100 Most Influential People in the World,” for his brave step decision to come out almost exactly a year ago while still active in a major U.S. sports league.
Collins made history again in February when he became the first openly gay player to be signed by an NBA team, the Brooklyn Nets.
