Today marks the release of Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More, a new memoir by transgender rights advocate Janet Mock.
Last week, Mock teased the book’s release with a series of six videos, discussing “passing,” disclosure, survival sex work, pop culture and other themes examined at greater length in her memoir.
In one video, Mock discusses the impact she hopes the book will have on other young transgender women, particularly transgender women of color.
“Through my own story and emotional experience, I hope that it empowers other young girls to know that, first off, that they’re not alone, and that it’s not bizarre, and that they’re not the first ones that have been there,” says Mock.
HRC is proud to co-sponsor ELIXHER Magazine’s upcoming Spring/Summer 2014 Issue Release party, which will celebrate Mock and her new book later this spring.
