It’s the Final Countdown in Illinois
May 28, 2013 by Lynne Bowman, Regional Field Director
Only four days remain in the Illinois spring legislative session. And that means we only have four days to convince our wavering legislators that NOW is the time to vote YES and bring marriage equality to the Land of Lincoln.
With our partners in the Illinois Unites for Marriage coalition, I’m headed today down to Springfield to hopefully see history made before the legislators leave on Friday. The chief sponsor of SB10, the Religious Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act, said last week that we WILL have a vote before the end of this week. And we expect when that vote happens, that we will win. But we can’t take anything for granted.
As our Eight Days of Action winds down, here’s what you can do today:

We only have 3 days left to pass marriage in Illinois. Will you help? Go to illinoisunites.org/itstime
HRC is a proud member of the Illinois Unites for Marriage coalition and we have been on the ground in the state since the beginning of the legislative session. With a contribution of 15 field staff, technology for connecting voters directly to their legislator, and significant involvement in faith organizing, we’ve seen firsthand how hard every person who believes in equality is pushing for the vote to happen. Hopefully, in the next 4 days, all of that work will come to fruition and all couples in Illinois will be able to marry the person they love.
