International Transgender Day of Visibility and Rally

On Sunday, March 31, 2013 transgender allies from across Arizona will hold a rally to mark the International Transgender Day of Visibility and to show opposition to the anti-transgender bill SB1045.
The bill would allow individuals and business owners to discriminate against transgender people seeking to use the bathroom or other sex-segregated public facilities. SB1045 serves no other purpose than to single out transgender people and proactively discriminate against them.
When it was passed by the Arizona Senate, the bill was not about gender identity or restrooms. State Representative John Kavanagh stripped the old language (about health professionals) and inserted the new anti-trans language. If passed by the Arizona House, the bill would go back to the Arizona Senate.
The rally will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. The speakers include Councilman Tom Simplot, the Executive Director of the National Center for Transgender Equality Mara Keisling, Executive Director of This Is HOW, Antonia D'orsay, Erica Keppler and several others. Local transgender Musician Cait Brennan is scheduled to provide entertainment.
