In Arizona with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

Linda Elliott, a member of HRC's Board of Directors, sent us this post today from Arizona: Arizona State Representative Kyrsten Sinema, Carolyn Lane, and I attended an event for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Wednesday. It was a beautiful day at a beautiful home in Central Phoenix. Senator Reid talked about the economic implications of the stimulus bill and the foreclosure relief program outlined by President Obama the previous day here in Mesa. We had all attended the President's speech the day before so it was a thrill to have Senator Reid join us the next day and explain how the foreclosure relief program would actually impact our community.

Senator Reid was very interested in our state legislature and asked Rep. Sinema many questions about the current session.  Rep. Sinema talked about the uphill climb for her caucus because they are in the minority in both houses.  Senator Reid said it was a very different situation in Nevada where the Democrats now have a veto proof majority in both houses.  Right now, that's only a dream in Arizona. There were about 70 people in attendance and it was a successful event.  It was a pleasure to talk to Senator Reid and commend him for his leadership and support of our legislative agenda.
