Illinois Senate Passes Marriage Equality
February 14, 2013 by Maureen McCarty, Online Content and Marketing Manager
The Illinois State Senate just voted 34 to 21 in favor of the Relgious Freedom and Marriage Equality Act, which would grant same-sex couples the right to marry in the state. Senators from both parties voted for the bill.
We celebrate this wonderful gift of love on Valentine's Day as the bill moves for consideration in the State House.
HRC is on the ground with 15 organizers as a proud member of the Illinois Unites for Marriage campaign, which includes Equality Illinois, Freedom to Marry, ACLU and Lambda Legal. We will continue our work in the state to bend the arch toward justice and equality.
