Illinois House Committee Passes Marriage Equality Bill
February 27, 2013 by Lynne Bowman, Regional Field Director
Yesterday the House Executive Committee voted to pass the marriage bill with a 6 to 5 vote.
The bill now moves to the House floor, where it could be voted on in the coming days. With Governor Quinn’s strong support for marriage equality, passing the bill on the House floor is our final hurdle towards securing the freedom to marry in Illinois once and for all.
Several Representatives still haven’t decided how they’ll vote -- which means that the fate of the marriage bill will come down to how many phone calls and emails we can generate to members of the House in the next several days.
We encourage all Illinois residents to contact their Representative now and urge them to vote YES on SB10.
HRC is proud to be on the ground with the 15-person field team and be a contributing member to the Illinois Unites for Marriage coalition. Working together with partners like Equality Illinois, ACLU, Lambda Legal and other progressive organizations, we know we will win.
