Illinois Governor Promises: Marriage Equality is Coming

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn made big promises to the LGBT community in today’s State of the State address.
"Marriage equality is coming to Illinois," he told lawmakers.
Quinn called on lawmakers to take the step toward equality for LGBT Americans by approving marriage equality legislation.
"Our Illinois is not a land of discrimination," Quinn said in the address. "Four years ago, nobody thought civil unions would be possible here. Today, civil unions are the law of our state. Nearly 5,200 couples across 94 counties have joined in a civil union."
