Hundreds Participate in HRC/NOH8 Photo Shoot
August 6, 2012 by HRC staff
Yesterday, HRC teamed up with our partners and friends from the NOH8 Campaign for an open house and photo shoot here in the Nation’s Capital. Despite some extremely hot and humid weather, over 600 people lined up at HRC Headquarters in downtown D.C. to have their photos taken. In addition to learning more about both HRC and the NOH8 Campaign, attendees placed over 500 calls speaking to voters in Maryland about the upcoming marriage referendum in their state.
“I’m pumped that this is happening. I saw the announcement on Facebook exploding with RSVPs and knew I had to come,” one participant mentioned while waiting in line for her photo to be taken. “It’s just really great to see HRC and NOH8 together. This is so much fun!” she went on, as the speakers played "Call Me Maybe" and folks danced, chatted and applied temporary tattoos for the iconic photos.
Volunteers from the Greater Washington D.C. Steering Committee chatted with the hundreds who showed up today, encouraging them to become more involved in the LGBT community and with HRC, and specifically our ongoing fieldwork talking to voters across Maryland. It was a great event for the local community here in DC!
