HRC’s lobby day, Spring Board meeting begins today - Follow us on Twitter!
March 5, 2009
Today officially marks the first day of the Human Rights Campaign's Spring Board Meeting, a time when our most active HRC members and supporters take time out of their schedules to come together in Washington, DC. (And on their own dimes, PS). That last point becomes even more poignant when you consider how many people have been truly been affected by these changing financial times. The sacrifices many of our members have made to travel to our nation's capitol on behalf of the LGBT community and our organization have not gone unnoticed. This morning, our dedicated army will head to Capitol Hill for HRC's annual lobby day. We've got a host of meetings set up with congressional representatives and their staffs. Our team will make their cases for inclusive hate crimes and federal workplace protections, equitable tax policies, the repeal of DOMA, and other top ticket items on our legislative agenda - in person. We love providing an opportunity for our members and strongest supporters to interact with their elected leaders face-to-face in their Capitol Hill offices. As a former Hill staffer, I know that those meetings really matter. We also know that our members will go back to their home districts with renewed understanding of how important is it for them to continue fighting, each and every day, for the legislative and social changes we all want to see enacted. Most importantly, our Members of Congress will have another powerful reminder that the LGBT community is an organized, strategic presence on Capitol Hill and across this country. So, I'm joining our team in their mission to make a memorable impact on the Hill today. We'll keep the blog updated with content as much as possible, but I encourage you to follow us on Twitter today at www.twitter.com/hrcbackstory. (If Twitter still seems a little weird to you...just get over it!) And follow us!
