HRC’s Greater NY Long Island Steering Committee Takes Top Honors at Outlook Awards

The following post comes from Carol Ebersole-Weiss, HRC Long Island Volunteer Coordinator:
HRC Greater New York Steering Committee’s Long Island contingent received the distinction of "Best Political Organization" and "Best Overall Community Organization" for 2011 at the Sixth Annual Outlook Awards on Long Island last week. Recipients are nominated and voted for by the Long Island LGBT Community and their allies. The evening had already promised to be special by virtue of HRC's own National Field Director Marty Rouse - a Long Island native - being honored with the "2012 Lifetime Community Service Award", so winning these prestigious awards was the icing on the cake.
HRC is well-known as a political organization, but it's the recognition as the Best Overall Community Organization of which we are especially proud. HRC works hard on Long Island to engage and educate the community at large regarding the issues that impact its LGBT members. We do this by bringing like-minded folks together to support the community via social gatherings, fundraising events, and sponsorships of other LGBT-supportive events.
