HRC volunteers make over 800 calls for equality!
April 16, 2009
By Wade Miller, a member of HRC's field team: The Field Team continued our weekly phone bank Wednesday night where a volunteers came together to dial for equality. The phone banks are geared towards increasing support for fair-minded legislation, campaigns and candidates. Yesterday, our band of volunteers made more than 800 calls to the residents of Iowa, Maine and New Hampshire! After the Iowa Supreme Court unanimously ruled that preventing gay and lesbian couples from marring was unconstitutional, the right-wing has gone into overdrive to roll back the court’s decision. In Maine, the Senate Judiciary Committee is slated to hear testimony from opponents and supporters of a bill to allow same-sex marriage in the state. The hearing is scheduled for April 22 at the Augusta Civic Center. Thanks to all of those that came out last night! Our next phone bank will be Tuesday, April 21 from 6-9pm. We meet at HRC Headquarters, located at 1640 Rhode Island Ave. NW, Washington, DC. You don’t need any experience phonebanking to participate—just a passion for equality! To RSVP, or if you have any questions, feel free to email Katie Taylor ([email protected]) or Terry McGuire ([email protected]).
