HRC Volunteers Gear Up for Virginia Elections
August 29, 2013 by Marty Rouse, National Field Director
Election Day is right around the corner in Virginia, and volunteers from the Human Rights Campaign are pitching in to support pro-equality candidates. Last night, volunteers from the DC Steering Committee made calls to HRC members inviting them make calls and knock on doors in support of pro-equality candidates in Virginia.
During the debrief we shared our results and a pizza. We signed up almost a dozen shifts and had a ton of great conversations with HRC members.
"My most memorable call was to someone who thanked me for calling him," said Dave, a first time volunteer at the phonebank. "He mentioned that he was just talking to friends about his desire to get involved. It was just perfect timing."
To sign up for a shift at the HRC headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday nights contact Alis and AlisHRC@gmail.com.
Earlier this year, the Human Rights Campaign made its first-ever endorsement of an entire statewide candidate ticket in Virginia. There’s a clear choice between the pro-equality Democratic candidates versus the anti-LGBT Republicans. HRC has endorsed Terry McAuliffe for Governor, Ralph Northam for Lieutenant Governor, and Mark Herring for Attorney General. Stand with us and support the equality ticket in the Old Dominion.
This November is Virginia’s moment. Ken Cuccinelli already has a track record of opposing equality and has actively fought to rollback basic protection for LGBT Virginians.
