HRC Volunteer Assaulted at Omaha Pride Parade
June 30, 2009
Last weekend a Human Rights Campaign volunteer was assaulted during Omaha's Pride Parade. Kendra Konrady of Kansas City drove out to Omaha with a group of volunteers to represent HRC at the event and while passing out equality stickers she was verbally harassed by a man and then grabbed and put into a headlock. She was quickly aided by those around her and thankfully not hurt by the incident. Additionally, nearby police officers were notified and promptly arrested the man who was charged with assault. The silver lining is that the incident gave the event's participants new resolve to continue fighting for equality. The volunteers report that the HRC table was flooded with people looking for more information on how to get involved.
