HRC Supports Photo Project Featuring LGBTQ Community
September 1, 2011
Earlier this year, HRC partnered with photographer iO Tillett Wright on Self Evident Truths, a photographic documentation of the LGBTQ community that aims to raise awareness about equality.
She shot 350 portraits in New York City – on 35mm film in black-and-white, in natural light without any makeup or styling – but has her sights set on visiting 25 cities across America and taking photos of as many as 5,000 people.
To help raise the funds to make this happen, HRC is releasing a Self Evident Truths T-shirt series featuring five prominent members of the LGBT community – musicians Tegan Quin from Tegan and Sara, JD Samson from MEN and Bianca Casady from CocoRosie; artist Terence Koh; and designer Robert Tagliapietra from Costello Tagliapietra – who have courageously lent their faces and voices to the project.
The unisex T-shirts are selling for $29 and $5 from each shirt will go directly to the Self Evident Truths project. You can purchase the shirts at shop.hrc.org.
Wright is a self-taught, New York-based photographer who has curated shows both nationally and internationally and has had her work featured in publications such as the New York Times Magazine, The Huffington Post and New York magazine.
