HRC Remembers Actor Cory Monteith, Ally for Equality

HRC is mourning the loss of Cory Monteith, an actor on the hit TV show “Glee.”
“Glee” is often credited for positive portrayals of LGBT characters and storylines, so Monteith frequently found himself answering questions about the fight for equality.
“Being aligned with 'Glee' has absolutely made me more aware of it. It's one of the defining challenges at this point in our human evolution,” Monteith said in 2012. “This is the equivalent human rights struggle for our generation. We're going to look back 50 years from now and be shocked that this is what we're having to deal with."
Monteith, who died over the weekend, shot to fame in 2009 when “Glee” hit the airwaves and quickly became one of the most popular shows on TV.
That same year, Monteith appeared alongside castmates Chris Colfer and Amber Riley at the 13th annual HRC National Dinner in Washington, D.C. The trio, which had been preceded onstage by fellow “Glee” star Jane Lynch, was there to introduce a performance by castmate Lea Michele.
Monteith tweeted his excitement ahead of the event.
