HRC Releases 4th Edition of Promising Practices in Adoption and Foster Care
November 29, 2012 by HRC staff
The following post comes from HRC Family Project Intern Pam Miller
National Adoption Month provides a great opportunity to announce HRC Foundation’s All Children – All Families release of the fourth edition of the Promising Practices in Adoption and Foster Care guide. This brand new guide is designed to help child welfare professionals begin the important process of improving practices with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) families. The guide can be downloaded from our website here.
The guide features the stories of nationwide public and private agencies that have already earned the Seal of Recognition by meeting the 10 Benchmarks of LGBT Cultural Competency we have outlined in the guide.
The fourth edition of the guide includes new sections in assessing relationship quality vs. legal status as marriage laws change, and the intersection of sexual orientation, race and culture. It also provides a detailed description of the curriculum for the four-part ACAF training.
As we blogged about earlier this month, we are in the process of a campaign to get agencies from each of the 50 states participating in ACAF!
If you work at a child welfare agency that may find this guide useful, please download and share the guide with your colleagues! And if your agency is interested in taking steps toward earning the Seal of Recognition, feel free to fill out this form and we’ll get your agency started in the process!
Don’t work at an agency but know of one that is LGBT-friendly and should participate in ACAF? Send us the agency’s name and we’ll get them involved!
