HRC President Chad Griffin Meets With Mississippi Progressive Organizations’ Leaders
July 12, 2013 by HRC staff
This afternoon, HRC President Chad Griffin held a working lunch with 22 representatives from progressive and LGBT groups across Mississippi. The goal of the meeting was to learn more about the work underway in Mississippi, the challenges organizations and activists have encountered, and the best way HRC can support ongoing efforts and sustainable work in the region.
Representatives came from a broad spectrum of social justice, religious, political and LGBT organizations, including the ACLU-MS, the MS Safe Schools Coalition, the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation, Equality Mississippi, the Mississippi Center for Justice, numerous congregations, and many others.
This event concludes a week-long series of events in Arkansas, North Carolina, Virginia and Mississippi, highlighting the need for progress on LGBT issues across the country, and particularly in the South, where LGBT Americans still can be fired for being who they are, and whose relationships aren't recognized by their states.
HRC will continue fighting for full equality for every LGBT American, from coast to coast and everywhere in between.
