HRC Presents at the Young Democrats of America Conference
June 2, 2014 by HRC staff
Post submitted by Hope Wisneski, Regional Field Director.
On Saturday, I had a fun opportunity to represent HRC at the Young Democrats of America (YDA) conference in Denver. YDA is the official youth organization of the Democratic Party. The conference allowed over 100 youth the opportunity to network with their peers across the nation and sharpen their political skills.
As part of HRC’s sponsorship, I hosted a workshop about this great moment in LGBT history. The HRC workshop drew over 25 percent of the conference participants. It generated impassioned conversations about topics like non-discrimination, marriage and LGBT policy advancement in conservative and rural areas. We took a look at HRC’s impact at the federal level including the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), implementing the United States v. Windsor decision. We also reviewed HRC’s influence at the local level through initiatives like the Municipal Equality Index, faith organizing and joining with partners to enact LGBT inclusive municipal non-discrimination ordinances.
HRC congratulates YDA on the successful event and is proud to have sponsored the gathering.
