This post is by Margot Rosen, HRC Director of Membership and Community Events.
Nearly 30 prospective foster and adoptive parents joined HRC and Patchwork Project, Inc for a free Adoption 101 workshop at The Center on Saturday morning.
Maria Bates, Founder & Executive Director of the St. Petersburg-based adoption agency, led a discussion about the "how-to's" of adopting. With her was Amy Imber, Executive Director of Connecting Hearts Adoption Services, who explained the home visitation process in detail, as well as adoptive parents and their two-year-old daughter, who shared their personal story.
Those in attendance received answers to their questions ranging from the differences between domestic and international adoptions, to the cost of adoption and fostering, to understanding Florida adoption laws and, perhaps most importantly, receiving countless resources to guide their next steps as they plan to start, or expand their families.
Patchwork Project, Inc has received HRC's All Children, All Families seal and can be found at http://www.patchworkproject.org for more resources and information. Many thanks to The Center for hosting this fantastic event.
