HRC Launches “United We Serve” Teespring Campaign for MLK Day of Service
January 9, 2014 by HRC staff
HRC and Teespring are proud to announce a limited edition collaborative t-shirt to unite our supporters and allies under a single banner and to help raise money to fight LGBT homelessness.
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. himself asked us, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’”
Our response: we are uniting to serve.
Together we will help LGBT homeless and at-risk youth, like Rickie* in Orange County, CA or the youth who rely on HMI in New York. LGBT individuals make up 40% of homeless youth who don’t have a safe place to call home.
We are uniting to serve LGBT youth who are eight times more likely to commit suicide if rejected by family members. We are uniting to serve and call attention to this critical issue.
And 100% of net proceeds from the T-shirt will support HRC’s and its partners’ joint efforts in addressing LGBT youth homelessness.
In the days leading up to MLK Day of Service on January 20th, we are partnering with organizations in over 15 cities on service projects that will increase each organization’s capacity to serve these youth, while engaging hundreds of our members, supporters, and allies in a meaningful volunteer experience. Service activities range from organizing donation drives of toiletries and clothing, to assembling care packages of travel-sized hygiene items, school supplies, and winter accessories, to minor renovation projects.
Until January 20th, service supporters who visit the “United We Serve” campaign site can place an order for a t-shirt. Only after the minimum of 75 orders has been reached will Teespring produce the shirt.
