This post comes from Todd Canon, HRC Board of Governors, Austin
HRC leaders in Austin have been working in close partnership with Equality Texas, the Anti-Defamation League, the NAACP, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and Allgo to urge Austin City Council members to support a nonbinding marriage equality resolution.
This coalition is calling on all citizens of Austin committed to working together to preserve our culture of respect and dignity for all to sign the petition that will be delivered to the Austin City Council. We thank the Austin City Councilmembers who have co-sponsored this resolution: Mayor Lee Leffingwell, Mayor Pro Tem Sheryl Cole, and Council Member Laura Morrison. The Austin City Council will vote on this resolution in late September.
