HRC in Rhode Island: Kicking It and Taking Names

The following post comes from HRC Field Organizer Trevor Chandler:

The coalition for marriage equality we have here in Rhode Island is strong and includes people from all over the state and all walks of life, from the AFL-CIO to the Rhode Island Bar Association to multiple town councils and the Rhode Island Democratic Party. And just as important as the formal groups who endorse us are the people who meet regularly together every Saturday for coffee, or the book clubs who discuss literature and social issues, or in the most recent case, people who come together to punch, kick and sweat.

Our awesome volunteer Jen Dixon invited us to Rondeau's Kickboxing in Johnston last week where we not only collected postcards and recruited volunteers but got to get a workout as well! I got to work on my left hook while working for the right cause, and needless to say I am still sore after the intense workout, and still have all my teeth. In fact, it was so successful we are arranging to go to Rondeau's several other locations throughout the state.

It is this type of coalition building, between regular groups of Rhode Islanders for equality doing what they love, that will get us to full marriage equality this year.
