HRC's "On the Road to Equality" bus tour rolled into sunny Orlando, Florida this week to celebrate our accomplishments and assess if we truly are on the "Cusp of Equality." Orlando has many accomplishments that we can be proud of. Because of the extraordinary work of many dedicated LGBT activists and supportive straight allies, Orlando has passed a Human Rights Ordinance, passed Domestic Partner Benefits for County and City employees, established an LGBT Chamber of Commerce building, launched a Supplier Diversity Initiative, and is now working with City and County elected officials to pass a Domestic Partner Registry.
Being part of last stop on the "Road to Equality" tour also gives Orlando a chance to say good-bye to Joe Solmonese, who for the past 7 years has led our fight for equal rights nationwide. Joe will be sorely missed, but the foundation he has laid and the momentum he has created will live on in the Human Rights Campaign and in all of us who work for equality.
The "On the Road to Equality" bus tour has been a great success and the Metropolitan Business Association, Orlando's LGBT Chamber of Commerce is proud to support its stop in Orlando.
