HRC Hosts Full House for ‘God Loves Uganda’ Film Screening
March 13, 2013 by Eric Cameron, Digital Media Associate
Last night HRC hosted a full house for the first-ever D.C. screening of God Loves Uganda by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Roger Ross Williams.
The documentary film powerfully explores the evangelical campaign to change African culture with values imported from America’s Christian Right, notably regarding “sexual immorality.” Williams was on hand to lead discussion of the film following the screening.
Last night’s audience included a diverse cross-section of leaders from across the social justice and faith communities, including retired bishop Gene Robinson, the Rev. Dr. Dennis Wiley, Darlene Garner and Sojourners founder and editor Jim Wallis. Representatives from the State Department, Congress, the White House and international and domestic NGOs were also in attendance.
HRC is honored to have hosted director Roger Ross Williams and to help spread awareness about the deeply concerning exportation of American religious extremism abroad.
